The question now becomes, did you install java and if/when you did, did you also update your PATH environment variable to include the path?

As I mentioned early on I was wondering if Java was installed or if there might be a path problem ... thus the need to run the version command.

I know that when I first installed Mozilla 1.5 it asked about Java and I said yes, or was that when I upgraded to Linux 9 from 8 ... hmmm.

FWIW, I installed Sun's java via their RPM. The java binary is located
in /usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01/bin/.

I was trying to use their SDM because my dialup is so slow and tends to drop the line during big downloads. 13megs is s BIG download!

My $PATH (which needs to be cleaned up... :-) ) shows....

[egreshko misty sbin]$ echo $PATH
/usr/kerberos/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/X11R6/bin:
/sbin:/usr/sbin:.:/usr/sbin/mhs:/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01/bin:
/usr/local/Acrobat5/bin:/usr/local/kde/bin:/usr/bin:/home/egreshko/bin:
/sbin:/usr/sbin:.:/usr/sbin/mhs:/usr/java/j2re1.4.2_01/bin:
/usr/local/Acrobat5/bin:/usr/local/kde/bin:/usr/bin

My echo $PATH is:

/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/X11R6/bin:/root/bin
