Perhaps it's loading your current XF86Config, try moving XF86Config
to XF86Config.org and running redhat-config-xfree86 from the
commandline.  I have not tried this but I assume it's a console app.
redhat-config-xfree86 is a symbolic link to consolehelper

consolehelper - A wrapper that helps console users run system programs
