I rebooted just to make sure - nope the USB is enabled in the bios.

Also, the kernel start-up log showed that it seems to have been detected.
usb-ohci.c: USB OHCI at membase 0xc8026000, IRQ 9
usb-ohci.c: usb-00:01.2, Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 7001
usb-ohci.c: USB HC TakeOver failed!
