Solved the problem by removing one of my NIC cards, so I guess you were
right about being unable to find resources (or a conflict). Tomorrow, I'll
try reinstalling the second NIC.

At what exact point does it freeze (after which dialog, etc.)?
Odds are eiter a) the pnp probe is running into a loop trying
to find free resources (although most of those should be
squashed by now), or b) it's looping somewhere reading/writing
the isapnp.conf file.
