Point well taken. So:
I tried to use sndconfig (v.38) with RH 6.1 (kernel 2.2.12-20) on an IBM Aptiva
with a crystal CS3247B integrated into the motherboard. Although it detected
the correct soundchip, it would crash when it tried to play a sample sound (This
is what I remember: error: <IORESCHECK> device busy...etc etc).
By disabling PnP, I got the sound to work fine.
