Hi Bill,

I wiped out the old RH Linux 7.0 installation, reformating my SCSI hard
drive with SCSI utility. Then I installed the RH Linux 7.0 from scratch,
using the CD-ROM from the box, and now in response to uname -a command I get:
Linux atlanta.gte.com 2.2.16 #1 Wed Aug 2 20:22:26 GMT 2000 i686 unknown
But _the sound problem remains exactly the same_ as before:
When I run sndconfig from the (text) terminal, a window on a blue
background appears, declaring "A probe will now be performed ...", but when I
hit the "OK" button, another window appears titled "ERROR: No Sound Modules
Found", claiming that "soundcore.o was not found in the module search path".
But I then did the "find . -name 'soundcore.o'" command from the / directory,
which discovered the file in question:
./lib/modules/2.2.16-22/misc/soundcore.o
Its size is 6939.
What is wrong?
Thank you.
Miroslav
