[Sound] Problem with sound

Hi there!

I am having a problem when I try to configure the sound, using the
sndconfig utility. The sndconfig detects my on-board sound card, as a
VIA Apollo, but when I press OK, my system crashes and I have to disable
the sound card, otherwise the Linux OS won`t load.  I have a DFI AK74 EC
motherboard with on-board sound enabled and I do not have an other sound
card. I am using the Linux Mandrake 7.1 OS. I would really appreciate
any help you can give me!

I am new to Linux. However, I am finding that it is a great operating
system, with a number of great packages. I really appreciate that you
distribute all this work for free, but I still hope that you are making
money anyways! You really deserve it!
