still getting the same message. if it helps, I am using the info found on
http://www.puschitz.com/InstallingOracle9i.html as a guideline. note, I
have not installed the previous glibc versions as the site indicates - it
blew up when doing that last time.

If as I suspect that installing oracle on taroon is similar to installing it
on RedHat 9, this is the first problem of several. This one however is
simple to avoid, try LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19 ./runInstaller
