I agree with you to a degree. In my case, my company owns 10 RedHat
Enterprise service contracts, and 10 RHN enterprise accounts. We pay a
good deal of money for these. What I would like to see is redhat allow
people to use RedHat AS 3.0, not buy a support contract but only buy a
redhat enterprise RHN account (i.e. they don't need support). This way
those who require support for critical enterprise servers can pay for it,
while those non critical development servers/test boxes can be kept up to
date, while not having to pay unreasonable prices.
Clarification: I am not sure that RedHat requires one to buy a support
contract before they can get an RHN account, but if they do I feel that is
unreasonable. If I can legally take a RedHat AS 3.0 cd install it on a
device and not pay RedHat a dime, why should I have to pay for support
just to get a RHN account?
Shane.
