Red Hat Linux 9 brings an ancient driver(1.18f). RHEL 3 drivers are newer
and they were optimized by RH, plus it has a better SCSI and VM subsystems.
Thus RHEL must be faster, at least in theory :-)

hdparm is not and very accurate test. Try other (bonnie++, iozone, fsx-linux,
createfiles, ...)
