If redhat isn't planning on updating their java package then I will just
uninstall it and use the sun one. I'm not going to keep a redundant
package around if I don't need to.

The vulnerability concerns only java browser applets, so you will runs
those with a safe java release, while you run other java applications
still with the IBM java.
There should be no conflicht if both are installed.
