Exactly. The problem is not with the kernel. The problem is with
proprietary binary-only drivers that the kernel update knows nothing
about - not whether it is supposed to work, fry your system, or send
nVidia all your pr0n.
The real answer is for you to get a video card that is supported by the
software you're running. That's been the rule of thumb in the computing
industry for at least the last 20 years: find the software you want to
run, and then buy the hardware that supports that. Don't buy the
hardware first - you're just looking for trouble down the road.
Vote with your pocketbook - don't give nVidia any more money.
