RE: Machine stop logging

Sounds to me like your syslogd didn't start correctly, or died during
startup. Can you confirm it is running?

Subject: Machine stop logging

Hello,
I just realized this today that I did not get logwatch report from one
of our
server. When I checked the server, I found out that the server has not
been
logging anything at all. Last entries from /var/log/messages was on Dec
6
when I shutdown the server for kernel update ( 2.4.21-20.0.1 ). The
shutting
down was logged, but not the boot up.

For that update, I also switched from LILO to GRUB by running
/sbin/grub-install /dev/sda. The grub.conf is already there so I assumed

up2date created it although I used LILO before. Since I changed my
subscription form WS to ES, I also installed redhat-release-3AS RPM
before
rebooting (I installed redhat-release-3WS before). Could any of these
caused
the problem ?

Here is df -h:
]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdb1 8.4G 4.4G 3.6G 55% /
/dev/sda1 99M 57M 37M 61% /boot
/dev/sdc1 34G 31G 1.2G 97% /home
none 375M 0 375M 0% /dev/shm
/dev/sda2 3.4G 799M 2.5G 25% /var
/dev/sdd1 34G 19G 14G 59% /home/httpd
/dev/sda5 3.9G 1.8G 2.0G 49% /var/log

Thanks for any help.
