Re: Is there a howto for 2.6.x on RHEL 3?

Yeah that looks like what we'll have to do too..install RHEL 4 beta

2.6.x just doesn't compile nicely on RHEL 3

Build it on FC2 or FC3 instead.

I just built a static kernel image with no module support and I've been running it on my RHEL3 WS almost since I got it.
No upgrades of utitlies etc. have been necessary.

Sofar I've used 2.6.3 and 2.6.8-rc2.
Both give much improved performance compared to the standard RHEL3 kernels and stability has been great.

Someone tried it out this way. I have only anecdotal evidence that it
didn't work very well 'out of the box' (he mentioned something about a
segfault in libc). But I don't know if he tried anything to remedy the
segfault, as his backup plan was RHEL 4 beta, and that seemed to work for
him for now.

I was just curious, has anyone been nice enough to put together a short
list of steps required to get 2.6.x working under RHEL 3 including
required versions of various pieces of software?

If none aren known, I'll probably write one up when I start trying to get
it to work this weekend.

Thanks,
