Thanks. It wasn't running and wasn't configured to run at run level 3 so I
added it. After a re-boot it still does not offer the graphic icon for the
Red Hat Network Alert icon, and when I click on the Red Hat Network icon,
nothing happens.
Interestingly, the service is shown to be included in the level 3 startup,
but it does not show that it is running when I do a restart or a stop and
then a start.

To see if it should be running:
# /sbin/chkconfig --list named
To see if it is currently runnning:
# /sbin/service named status
To start it if it isn't:
# /sbin/service named start
