In order for my rhn-applet to work I had to change my
/etc/sysconfig/rhn/rhn-applet from:
server_url=https://www.rhns.redhat.com/APPLET
to:
server_url=https://xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com/APPLET
which I got out of the rhn-applet.rpmnew file.
