FYI, Dell pre-installed ALSA on the workstations with RHEL WS 3 which I
purchased from them recently. They use dkms to automatically re-compile
and re-install ALSA and the NVIDIA drivers when a kernel update is
installed. Sadly, a change in the include files for the most recent
RHEL kernel broke ALSA compile; still, this seems to be the way to go.
I haven't dug deeply enough into the dkms docs to see how it works, but
it seems to.
