?

How do you check if it is the right key, or which key to select?

Done a

rhnreg_ks --username=xxx --password=xxxx

and got
This system is already registered. Use --force to override

So I repeated the command with --force, now get

Could not retrieve action item from server
<Server for xmlrpc.rhn.redhat.com/XMLRPC>
Error code: -31
Error Message:
Service not enabled for system profile: "machine name"
This system does not have a valid entitlement for Red Hat Network.
    Please visit https://rhn.redhat.com/network/systems/entitlements.pxt or
login at https://rhn.redhat.com, and form the "systems" tab,
select "system entitlements" to enable RHN service for this system.

Now on RHN, Systems Overview, I now have two entries for this machine:

xxxxx.neodc.rl.ac.uk Red Hat Linux 9 Update
xxxxx.neodc.rl.ac.uk Red Hat Linux 9 None

I have other entries that read
yyyyyy.badc.rl.ac.uk Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS (v.3 for x86)
Management

I suppose my real question is, why up2date thinks the machine is Red Hat 9
instead of RH EL during the information gathering phase in up2date
--register?

I did try to change the /etc/sysconfig/rhn/systemid to RH 3AS, or remove
this file altogether, but up2date --register still returns Red Hat 9
when it shows the local machine profile - even before the prompt for
forwarding
the details to RHN.

Are you using the right key?
If it is showing as RH9 then the key you are using is for RH9 only.

Do a rhnreg_ks --username=user --password=password

And go from there.

Did try that, but the channel options are
a. RH 9
b. disable

So no good.

Thanks for your response though. Peter

Go to the system details of the box. On the right column there is a
"Subscribed Channels" section, which should state the channel your box is
subscribed to, and also a link to "Alter Channel Subscriptions".

And if that won't let u.. Then I dunno *shrug*

I have recently updated a RH 9 box to RH EL 3 Update 2.

Actually, it is a fresh installation, on a separate partition from RH 9. The
machine name and address however remain the same.

I then tried to use "up2date --register" to put my machine profile to RHN so
that I can obtain updates from it.

I then realised that during the registration process, my machine profile is
described to be Red Hat 9, and not Red Hat 3AS.

The profile is registered on RHN, but a subsequent up2date will return the
system is fully up to date, and no updates are done.

I tried to check on the RHN, remove the entry, and register again, but no
joy. There doesn't seem to be a way I can alter the machine profile to
reflect its base operating system.

Does anyone knows how to do that?

Thanks.
