RE: Up2date RH9 to AS

Thanks Kevin and Tom,

I think I have found the answer to the problem.

>From up2date --configure, Retrieval/Installation tab,
there is an option labelled as "Override version stored in System Profile".

If I click on this, there are options ranging from "RH 6.0" to "RH 9".
But if I typed in "3AS", it is accepted.

(3AS is obtained from a working ES systemid file.)

If I then up2date --register, the system profile now says 3AS
as opposed to RH9.

It is now happy to amend my existing record at RHN from RH9 to Enterprise.
It then starts off a process to update the software.

I suppose the remaining question is how did it happen in the first place.

Anyway, I am quite happy with this solution.

If you already have done the "clean install" then don't do it again. It
sounds as if you have done a clean install and used the RH9 key instead of
the RHEL AS key. Do what Tom has said below and re-register with the
existing tainted stuff out of the way... which you hinted at with:

> I did try to change the /etc/sysconfig/rhn/systemid to RH 3AS

You shouldn't have to hack at anything.

I had to change a RHEL 2.1 box to RHEL 3.0 and had no issues like you are
getting, but I've heard there are problems upgrading from RHx to ES, but
they aren't RHN issues, but issues locally to the box.

IIRC all I did was register the key at the support URL, then assign the box
to the key in RHN. I didn't upgrade, I fresh installed RHEL ES3 and tied
the key to the RHN using the command I posted in an earlier post to you.

Kev

I missed the original question but if you think rhn is confused try moving
the following files in /etc/sysconfig/rhn out of the way and reregistering
the machine:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 13 May 13 13:43 rhnsd
-rw------- 1 root root 97 May 30 16:28 up2date-uuid
-rw------- 1 root root 3.3K Jun 18 07:02 up2date

If the only problem you are having is rhn that should not be necessary but
do as you wish. :-)
