Thanks Pasi. So you don't have this card and still have the lockups on
amd64?
I've installed the 2.4.21-17ELsmp kernel from the beta update3, and we've
got tests running on the raid volume overnight from the Linux Test Project
(http://ltp.sourceforge.net/), so far so good but it's only been one
night...

I've withnessed this under (my) Tao Linux too with this very latest kernel.
Three lockups on one dual-opteron (Tyak K8S) and even two on
another (MSI something) before i replaced the kernel on that one.
I've had that Tyan since eraly December last year nad that have been rock
solid (if i don't count some expriments on my kernel patches).
I suspect there is something wrong on the kernel. I changed the kernel today
to update3 beta kernel and will monitor it further.
So i run on pure Tyan K8S and not signle PCI-card installed and still hangs.

As much i hate bashing, i have to say that i've had my problems with 3ware
9500S-8 and Maxtor drives. There is one firmware version which isn't working
with that 3ware at all (the only one certified on available PDF). It didn't
take even one week stress testing before it failed one drive which i had to
'badblock -svw' on another machine before it even accepted it back (kept
failing sectors immetiadetly).
Might work better with another brand drives. I only have those 250GB
Maxtors. Those maxtors are working aOK with any other SATA-port i've ised
them (i have prox. 30 ports now at home).
So i am not so happy with this 3ware SATA-stuff. Thank god i have several
Sun A1000 boxes which _ARE_ working reliably :)
