Re: disabling the rhn applet without removing it

Is there a way to prevent the RHN applet from showing up by default on
the desktop without actually removing the whole rhn-applet package?
What I want to do is to setup the desktop so that people who are plain
end-users don't see it by default while the system administrators
should have an option to add it to their gnome panel.

Assuming your users are running Gnome, try removing the relevant lines from /usr/share/gnome/default.session (see also default.session(5))

From the comment at the top of default.session:
# This is the default session that is launched if the user doesn't
# already have a session.

I am not as familiar with KDE, but my guess is that /usr/share/config/ksmserverrc would be the place to look if that's your environment of choice.

Hope this helps,
