Route to network 169.254.0.0

Hi,

Could somebody explain me why RH is creatinng a route to the 169.254.0.0
network even when I'm not using DHCP? The script which is responsable for
this is /etc/sysconfig/netwok-scripts/ifup. It's checking the NOZEROCONF
variable but I couldn't find any mention to this in RH
/usr/share/doc/initscripts-x.xx

I know about zeroconf and APIPA from other sources.
