Probably not. Python is used for lots of stuff (anaconda, the
redhat-config-* tools, rpm bindings, etc..) so a major upgrade of Python
is a serious pain in the rear.
OTOH, I just rebuilt and installed the python.org src RPMS for FC1 on
RHEL-3 and they work great and install as python2.3 so there is no
naming clash.
