Hi All,
Does anyone know if there is something different with file locking on
NFS filesystems with RedHat Enterprise WS 3 Update 2? We didn't
have a problem with Update 1, but the problem started occuring after
we upgraded to Update 2.
We have two versions of emacs. One from the rpm, and one that we
compiled from source. When we run rmail from emacs, it calls the
movemail program. The movemail program that we compiled no longer works,
but the one from rpm works. Can anybody explain why?
> /usr/local/libexec/emacs/21.3/i686-pc-linux-gnu/movemail /var/spool/mail/cld /tmp/foobar
movemail: No locks available for /var/spool/mail/cld
In the above example, /var/spool/mail is an NFS mounted filesystem.
We get the same error if we startup emacs, then hit <meta>X rmail.
Since this used to work fine with Update1, something must have broken it
during. I'm guessing it's the nfs-utils-1.0.6-21EL rpm and the new
version of rpc.lockd which is dated May 10, 2004.
Thanks,
Cheryl
