Re: SAN w/ multiple paths on IBM bladecenter

Try this:

http://mail.uindy.edu/pipermail/linux-xseries/2004-May/000006.html

I've practically begged IBM on multiple occasions via multiple channels to let me publish this in a RedPaper or otherwise make it available to their customers, but they don't seem to care. This despite the fact that they have a detailed installation document for AS 2.1 available, so it isn't as though this is a foreign concept. So, I just keep forwarding my info on via word-of-mouth after they've wasted several days of their own time. Kinda depressing, really. :-(

For those who like complicated and annoying problems this is one for you :)

I have IBM blade's that I need to get to install and boot from a SAN with multiple paths in failover mode. I am using RHEL v3.0 Update2 w/ latest patches. The problem is when multiple paths are enabled RHEL3 sees two drives when in fact there is only one. If I disable one of the paths I can install and boot correctly without issue.

If at all possible I would like to use the qlogic (qla2300) driver included with RHEL3, this driver is newer than any of the 6.xx drivers on qlogic's site and from reading the source code does appear to support failover if one sets "options qla2300 ql2xfailover=1" in /etc/modules.conf however the operating system still sees two drives when there is only one.

I have installed the latest sansurfer qlogic configuration utility in hopes it would give me a hint as to what I am doing wrong but without any success.

Has anyone run into this problem before? I would not think this configuration is that unusual.

Thanks
