I recommend downloading and installing firefox in your home directory or
some other non-default location. Saves a lot of headaches when
updating and working with applications with varied dependencies. Nice
part is, move your home dir, your exact browser goes with it.
This may seem a bit silly, but after having gone both routes multiple
times, I can say that keeping it either in ~/bin/firefox (started with
~/bin/firefox/firefox) or something like /opt or /usr/local is far
superior than screwing with Redhat's package.

The "Download Now" should give you the Gtk2/Xft version by default from
RHEL 3.
