I have never seen nor heard of the test suite damaging hardware, but it
should not be run on a production server anyway. The test suite can
theoretically cause the machine to crash due to overheating, but that is
one of the things you want to know if you are going to be running these
tests. (Back up or move your data off this machine, just in case.) The
test were designed for hardware manufacturers, but are made available
for end users who want to self-certify their environments for peace of
mind. There is some set up involved in the testing (like placing a
recent kernel-*.src.rpm in a particular place, or setting up network
services on an additional machine) to be done prior to the tests, so
please read the instructions first.
BTW- be aware that your email was marked as spam by Red Hat's filters, I
just happened to catch it. I do not know if the list is scanned for spam
for the whole list or just for local delivery, but anything you can do
to lower your score may help you get more replies.
