U3 update crashed - now many duplicate rpms

Yesterday I was using up2date to update a RHEL 3 system to the U3 version.

In the rpm installation phase, the up2date process was hanging, after about half of all installs.

When it had been hanging for nearly an hour, I killed the up2date process, having to use kill -9 to get rid of it.

Rerunning up2date then failed, it did hang always without any activity.

I decided to reboot the system this morning, successfully, and
did run up2date again.

It reported about 20 more necessary installations, which went without problems.

But it seems that du to the killling, not all final cleanup operations have run.

I find now many duplicate rpms on my system, e.g.

(using rpm -qa|sort to get a sorted list)

Is there a way to get rid of the duplicates, or do I have to go through the listing and use rpm -e for all older versions?

I am also worried that not all post-install scripts have run as they should, so that possibly some subsystems are in an incoherent state.
