luseradd vs. useradd

Does anyone actively use luseradd and the other utils included in the
libuser RPM?  We've had an ongoing issue internally with NIS+ and
useradd.  useradd will take 60-90 minutes to add a single local user
while it queries the NIS+ server passwd map (which has over 70K
entries).  This breaks automatic installation of RPMs via RHN or Red
Carpet (i.e. httpd adding the apache user).

We just happened to find the libuser stuff.  Have people tried replacing
a lot of the shadow-utils programs like useradd, userdel with luseradd
and luserdel?

I'd be interested to hear about any caveats to this approach.
