Hi,
I am currently working on a problem I am seeing on an IBM 325 box.
This is a dual opteron box, running Red Hat Enterprise WS 3.0
Linux <machinename> 2.4.21-4.ELsmp #1 SMP Fri Oct 3 17:32:58 EDT 2003
x86_64 x86_64 x86_
4 GNU/Linux
It randomly panics with the following message;
hal2 kernel b60000010005001b 0
Northbridge machine check exception
uncorrectable status
uncorrectable status
Error uncorrected
CPU1: Machine check exception : 0000000000000000
Kernel Panic - unable to continue
Now, an initial talk with IBM suggested upgrading firmware on the box,
which I did. However I am still seeing the error.
A further google, got me the following suggestions;
Specifically, this refers to an IBM responce for the IBM 335
(http://seclists.org/lists/linux-kernel/2004/Mar/1114.html )
"IBM told us to use the newest Red Hat Kernel for Enterprise Linux and
set mce=off as a Kernel Parameter."
Now what I would like to know is , can I determine on a running machine
the exact parameters passed to the kernel, ie to
verify that the box is running with the mce=off option. I do not want to
have to reboot the box to confirm this.
On a more general note, has anyone seen similiar issues ?
Tks,
-Bob Flynn
