machine checks are fatal signals from your hardware to the kernel that
the hardware is failing it's own self diagnosis or otherwise hits a
fault that should not happen/

Now I'm not saying the kernel is fault free always in handling things
(and sometimes the kernel triggers events that trigger hardware
conditions that should not happen), but a lot of the times it's a
physical problem.

What you could try is updating to the latest rhel3 kernel, there might
be fixes in case the kernel triggers this but.. it smells suspect.
