i686 kernel on AMD Opterons

hey all,

Is there any way to install the 32 bit i686 kernel on the AMD Opterons?
I dont want to install the athlon kernel but the i686 kernel based.
I have heard some people do this on their Opterons installing the
2.4.21-15.0.3.ELsmp kernel.
Any ideas or insights appreciated..
