I'm sure that Sun is capable of producing real benchmarks where Sol10
trounces RHEL, and vice versa.
Personally, I have one of those new Opteron workstations from Sun. I
had Sol9/x86 on it for a short while (the first few days after I
received the machine) and right now it's booted into the Solaris 10
beta. At first glance, desktop response is significantly better than
it was on Sol9, though it would be nice if they had updated to a
slightly less crusty version of Gnome.
I'm also downloading the 64 bit version of Nahant as we speak and I'll
have it installed in the next few days. If anyone had benchmarks or
tasks they wanted me to run under both Sol10/86 and RHEL4/x86_64, I'd
be happy to serve as the list's Guinea pig.
