Can't read CDROM to add Packages

I've installed RHEL 3 on a Dell Dimension XPS.  The system is in service
and stable.

When attempting to add packages, the Gnome "Add/Remove Applications" is
unable to recognize that a CD has been inserted in the CDROM drive.
Automount works.  The CDROM drive works for other operations, but not
for "Add/Remove Applications".

Anyone else encountered this problem?
