Re: Sendmail - smart_host not working?

By default sendmail daemon only listen on loopback interface, so the service isn't visible from the network.

Ok.

I think I'll rephrase my question.

How can I send email without having the sendmail daemon running. I
already got a smtp server I want to send the mail through. (I've
reverted back to default config files to be sure, and the sendmail
daemon is stopped)

No, I left all dnl markings intact.

So 'dnl' is some kind of comment mark in .mc files?

Christopher.
silly question but you did remove the first dnl right?
'dnl' comments out the entry that follows.

     not:
     dnl define(`SMART_HOST',`smtp.relay.host')dnl

but:

define(`SMART_HOST',`smtp.relay.host')dnl

Hi,

This is probably a simple question to answer, but I'm stuck. I've search, but no luck.

I have a RHEL 3 ES server. I need to set this server up so when a program on the server wants to send email, it is forwarded to our mail gateway (the only computer allowed to send out email). I thought it was

as easy as defining the

dnl define(`SMART_HOST',`smtp.relay.host')dnl

Line, and I entered the IP address of the mail gateway, then I ran

make -C /etc/mail

and restartet sendmail.

I still did not recieve the testmail(s) I tried to send from CLI.

Any suggestions?
