Did you see my post/thread on more or less the same
problem?
I have disabled the sendmail daemon, and just send the mail
through my mail gateway, only changing submit.mc and compiling the new
submit.cf. I had to use brackets '[a.b.c.d]' around the IP address to
the mail gateway.

I need to send mail from a linux machine to a remote mail server. I've managed to send an email by means of a telnet to port 25 of the mailhost, but so far I haven't been able to properly configure sendmail, so that it relays the emails to the mailhost.
Here is the output of the mail command:
[root gandalf mail]# mail -v -s Test iecisa cortegag iberia es Test . Cc: iberia.es: Name server timeout iecisa cortegag iberia es Transient parse error -- message queued for future delivery iecisa cortegag iberia es queued
It seems that the domain iberia.es can't be resolved, and the message does not leave the local machine.
I've read some information about configuring sendmail, and have tried adding:
define(`SMART_HOST',`mailhost')
in the /etc/mail/sendmail.mc file (mailhost is properly defined in the /etc/hosts file). I've used the m4 macro to generate a new sendmail.cf file, and have restarted sendmail. I keep getting the same error.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks in advance.
