SAP solutions on Red Hat shipped to more than 100 customers; R/3 on Red Hat now generally available

-

Red Hat, a leading provider of open source software, service and information, have announced that SAP R/3, a major component of mySAP.com, is now generally available on the Red Hat Linux operating system and has already been shipped to more than 100 customers. The huge growth in customer demand and industry support prompted Red Hat to partner SAP (the leading provider of inter-enterprise software solutions) to deliver productive solutions on Linux.

Red Hat and SAP have been working together to build an extended version of the award winning Red Hat Linux 6.1. The Kernel, glibc and the installer have been improved to fit the needs of an enterprise server and for use with Sap R/3. In this partnership with Red Hat, SAP will deliver additional mySAP.com components including the Business Information Warehouse and Business-to-Business Procurement, on Linux, in the first half of 2000.

mySAP.com provides an open collaborative business environment of personalized solutions on demand. This equips enterprises with the efficiency, ease-of-use and inter-enterprise collaboration they need to take full advantage of the Internet economy.

Commenting on the partnership, Colin Tenwick Vice President Red Hat, Europe, Middle East and Africa said, "The SAP partnership is yet another seal of approval for Red Hat Linux. SAP is aware of the increasing consumer demand for Linux based systems and has chosen the expertise of Red Hat to operate them. With the award winning Red Hat version 6.1, SAP has the perfect operating system to extend their Internet business solutions."

To provide end-to-end support for SAP solutions based on Red Hat and so ensure customer success, SAP is working with leading hardware partners like Hewlett Packard, IBM, Siemens and Compaq, service organisations and database suppliers. Red Hat and the Open Source Community joined forces with the SAP LinuxLab to implement Red Hat 6.1 Enterprise Version 1.0 that includes a special label, "Certified by SAP LinuxLab." Critical enterprise enhancements in this version of Linux include full native language support that make Linux suitable for multi-national, mission critical applications.
