Red Hat Names Gery Messer President of Asia Pacific

Company views APAC as strategic growth market for open source solutions.

RALEIGH, N.C -

Red Hat (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the hiring of Gery Messer in the newly created role of President, Asia Pacific. Messer will report to Alex Pinchev, Executive Vice President of Global Sales, and Charlie Peters, Chief Financial Officer.

Messer has over 20 years of experience as a management consulting, sales and marketing professional. Messer has held significant line management roles in Europe and Asia Pacific. He successfully founded and launched the SAP operation in Korea, where he was Managing Director prior to his joining Deloitte Consulting in 1996. As Managing Director of Deloitte Consulting South East Asia, he was responsible for the Technology Practice (ERP) in Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines. Messer was then appointed as President and Regional Managing Director for Deloitte Consulting Korea, where he led the entire Management Consulting practice, including strategy and operations, change leadership and educational services.

Messer was most recently a Vice President for EMC Asia Pacific. He joined EMC Corporation as Vice President in 2003 to head up the Technology Solutions Group (TS) in the Asia Pacific and Japan region. His key responsibilities included execution of EMC's go-to-market strategy and integration of the professional services and system engineering practice into a single-customer facing organization.

Red Hat has seen demand from public and private sector groups most notably in China, Japan, Singapore, South Korea and India. "In the fast growing Asia Pacific region there is a great understanding of the value of open source," said Alex Pinchev, Executive Vice President of Global Sales at Red Hat. "Gery has gained a reputation for putting people and systems in place to drive massive growth in this region. His experience will enable Red Hat to better suit the market demand and accelerated growth in the Asia Pacific region."

"I am very excited to join Red Hat's dynamic global management team at such an interesting and promising stage in its history," said Messer. "Red Hat is very committed to Asia Pacific and had tremendous success in recent years. I look forward to building on this terrific foundation, to continuing to grow our presence in this part of the world and to bringing leading open-source and Linux solutions through our extensive ecosystem of partners to many existing and new enterprise and SMB clients."

Messer will be based at Red Hat's APAC headquarters in Singapore.
