Red Hat Provides nBand with Embedded Development Tool Suite for Cutting-Edge, Broadband Wireless Communications

RALEIGH, N.C -

Red Hat, Inc. (Nasdaq: RHAT), the leader in developing, deploying and managing open source Internet infrastructure solutions, today announced with nBand Communications, Inc., a broadband wireless technology company, a port of the Red Hat GNUPro embedded development tools to nFlex, nBand's broadband wireless communications processor.

Under the terms of the agreement with nBand, Red Hat will provide a version of its industry-leading, GNUPro development tools compatible with nBand's nFlex family of programmable processors for applications such as wireless LANs, fixed broadband wireless access, universal wireless gateways and cellular base stations. Red Hat will also provide ongoing maintenance and commercial support for nFlex end users.

nBand expects to introduce nFlex, along with a GNUPro development suite initially for the Solaris operating system, in the Spring of 2001. The nFlex GNUPro development environment is now available under beta release to select nBand customers.

"Red Hat has tremendous embedded and open source expertise and the availability of these industry standard tools for the nFlex processor family will speed adoption by OEMs looking to develop and upgrade products through software," said Pete Foley, president and CEO of nBand Communications. "This port includes optimizations for nFlex vector extensions that maximize the performance of nFlex-based broadband wireless baseband and MAC layer applications."

"Red Hat is helping innovative companies like nBand to come to market quickly with the GNUPro open source tool suite," said Michael Tiemann, CTO of Red Hat. "nBand's new nFlex processor will enable OEMs to create, manage and deploy a new generation of wireless products. Red Hat continues to see tremendous momentum as the only open source provider that can easily provide a complete spectrum of embedded, open source solutions and actively manage a consistent set of API's and common code base through the Red Hat Network."
