This chapter provides an overview of the files that are specific to an instance of Red Hat Directory Server (Directory Server) — the files stored in the /usr/lib/dirsrv/slapd-instance_name directory.[1] Having an overview of the files and configuration information stored in each instance of Directory Server helps with understanding the file changes (or lack of file changes) which occur in the course of directory activity. It can als help to detect errors and intrusion by indicating what kind of changes to expect and, as a result, what changes are abnormal.

[1] The /lib directory only applies to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 32-bit systems. On Red Hat Enterprise Linux 64-bit systems, the directory is /lib64, and on Solaris 64-bit systems, it is /lib/sparcv9.
