Finishing Up

If you are doing a Custom installation, in the section called Creating a Boot Diskette , you may have chosen to make a boot diskette. If you did, you'll now be prompted to insert a blank, suitably labeled diskette.

When the installation is finished, the install program displays the completion dialog ( Figure 9-46 ) telling you to reboot your computer. Don't forget to remove any diskette from the diskette drive (unless you decided to skip the standard LILO installation, in which case you'll need to use the boot diskette created during the installation), or the Red Hat Linux CD if your system is able to boot from the CD-ROM.

Select Ok to start your newly installed system. After your computer's normal power-up sequence has completed, you should see LILO's standard prompt, which is boot: . At the boot: prompt, you can do any of the following things:

• Press Enter -- Causes LILO's default boot entry (as defined by the dialog box shown in Figure 9-23 ) to be booted.

• Enter a Boot Label, followed by Enter -- Causes LILO to boot the operating system corresponding to the entered boot label.

• Wait -- After LILO's timeout period, (which, by default, is five seconds) LILO will automatically boot the default boot entry.

Do whatever is appropriate to boot Red Hat Linux. You should see one or more screens of messages scroll by. Eventually, you should see either a graphical login box, or a login: prompt.

Congratulations! Your Red Hat Linux installation is complete!
