On the heels of the launch of JBoss Enterprise Business Rules Management System, and JBoss Open Choice we’re happy to announce the general availability of JBoss Operations Network 2.2 (JBoss ON). JBoss ON is Red Hat’s JBoss middleware management platform. The platform aims to deliver significant technical and user enhancements to improve the management of all components of the JBoss Enterprise Middleware portfolio.

A major feature of JBoss Operations Network 2.2 is support for plug-in style packaging. The platform’s architectural flexibility allows for the development of plug-in packs to support the JBoss stack for a rapid time-to-market model. Plug-in packs for JBoss ON are small, modular packages of code that customers can mix and match to find the right combination of management features. This approach allows a customer to deploy exactly what they need in a management platform and scale up to include additional functionality as their systems require it.

The plug-in packaging is an important step in simplifying not only provisioning of management software but also run time environments. By using shared common services in the underlying management infrastructure, JBoss ON plug-ins put the focus back on much needed usability in management software.

With JBoss ON 2.2 customers use a single interface to manage multiple JBoss middleware products, and as their middleware stack grows, add management capabilities only when needed on the existing platform.

Some of the key features found in JBoss ON 2.2 include:

  • A completely updated AJAX-based user interface with a common menu system, tree views, and search capabilities
  • Support for JBoss clusters, from visibility and configuration to control operations and cluster monitoring
  • Enhanced security for simplified access control
  • Auto-upgrades for agents

JBoss ON 2.2 provides seamless lifecycle application management functions for the entire JBoss middleware portfolio. The new approach enables a streamlined, simpler process ultimately reducing complexity and costs, and increasing productivity for our customers.
