We’re proud to announce the availability of a new version of Command Center, Red Hat‘s integrated server and application monitoring service. Along with this release, we’ve also launched a new evaluation program that makes it easy to try out Command Center in your environment. Free of charge.

Red Hat Command Center is a Software as a Service offering that monitors the availability and performance of your IT infrastructure around the clock. Because it’s delivered as a service, Command Center is quick to deploy, and you only pay for what you use. Command Center monitors not only Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JBoss, but a wide range of IT infrastructure components spanning from network devices to servers to business applications and web sites. And it complements Red Hat’s other management services, including Red Hat Network Hosted, Red Hat Network Satellite and JBoss Operations Network.

Prior releases of Red Hat Command Center required a dedicated hardware appliance called a “scout” in order to monitor servers behind a firewall. With this release, we’ve removed the hardware dependency entirely, meaning you can now deploy the scout software on any commodity server with no additional cost. That makes Command Center easier than ever to evaluate and deploy.

In addition to the new software scout, other new Command Center features include:

  • Improved access to your monitoring data
  • Increased licensing flexibility, by server or by probe
  • Better administrative control over scout configurations
  • Refreshed user interface and login capabilities

Bulk monitoring data can now be downloaded in the open XML standard for reporting and archival purposes. Enhanced entitlement tools gives you maximum flexibility with your Command Center licenses - mix and match unlimited probes per server or purchase just the probes you need. The scout software has also added administration tools for improved diagnostics and security within your monitoring environment. And the Command Center web interface has been refreshed for greater usability; one Red Hat user ID now gives you access to all your Red Hat Online Services.
