Pick Systems, Inc., a leading developer of multi-user, multi-value database management system (DBMS) software, today announced the immediate availability of its D3 Linux v.7.1 with Red Hat Linux v.5.1. With this announcement, more than 4,000 existing Year 2000-compliant applications developed by Pick's value-added reseller (VAR) channel are now available on the Linux platform.
"The combination of Pick's D3 DBMS with the Linux operating system provides a very robust and cost-effective solution," said Bud Coyne, marketing product manager, core technologies. "D3 offers proven technology, high-performance and scalability along with relatively low-cost hardware requirements. Coupled with Linux's exceptional performance and the flexibility of its open souce code, the D3 Linux solution boasts a total cost of ownership far below competing database solutions."
"We are pleased that Pick supports the Linux platform," said Robert Young, president, Red Hat. "By offering a strong base of applications which are immediately available, we believe that Pick will be instrumental in the success of Linux as a viable enterprise alternative."
"We have been using Pick's DBMS for Linux since September of 1995," said Robert Schingledecker, the Information Systems manager for the city of Garden Grove, California. "When we first migrated to Linux, we were surprised at its exceptional performance and easy set-up, not to mention the fact that it is free. Our Linux machines run 24 hours a day and have proved to be very stable and reliable. So, we are pleased that Pick is continuing to offer next-generation products based on Linux."
