Red Hat Network with Monitoring and Cross Platform Support Soon Available.

New Monitoring module beefs up network security; cross platform support to simplify migration.

Linuxworld

Red Hat, Inc. (NASDAQ:RHAT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions to the enterprise, today announced the availability of Red Hat Network with Monitoring Module and support for Solaris. Red Hat and BMC Software also announced collaboration to extend cross platform support for heterogeneous configuration management. The availability of Red Hat Network with these enhanced capabilities makes Red Hat Network an even more powerful tool to secure systems in the enterprise.

"Enterprise customers have relied on Red Hat Network to update, manage and provision systems efficiently and cost effectively for years. Working with enterprise customers we've designed a solution for two other major infrastructure concerns: security and migration," said Paul Cormier, Executive Vice President of Engineering at Red Hat. "Monitoring and cross platform support via Red Hat Network give customers greater efficiency and confidence in their network security."

Red Hat Network is a web-based systems management platform. It enables customers to manage the complete lifecycle of their Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems. With Red Hat Network, it is simple for enterprises to manage activities such as patching, provisioning, rollback, configuration management, and now monitoring. Red Hat Network is well known for simplifying Linux deployment, manageability and security. The release of the Monitoring Module now improves the availability of mission-critical applications and cross platform support now makes Red Hat Network helpful with the migration of systems to Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

The Red Hat Network Monitoring Module is comprised of four main areas of functionality:

  • Probes: Customers can create dozens of monitoring probes for each of their systems, configuring warning and critical thresholds for each probe. Probes can monitor systems, network functionality, or applications. Over 60 pre-built probes are available initially, including many for applications from Oracle, MySQL, Apache, and BEA. Customers can also create custom probes using the tools provided.
  • Probe suites: Customers can configure probes and group them together to create probe suites. These suites can be deployed to groups of systems at once, allowing thousands of probes to be created with a single click. Once deployed, customers can adjust the probe configurations for all systems that received the suite.
  • Notifications: When the warning or critical thresholds of a probe are reached, an e-mail or pager alert is sent to the contact defined in the probe.
  • Reporting: Customers can view graphs of a probe's performance over time, as well as view the raw data from the information collected.

Red Hat Network Solaris Management is a simple and inexpensive tool to patch legacy Solaris environments. Customers with both Solaris and Red Hat Enterprise Linux deployed will be able to leverage the benefits of a single, unified systems management system with Red Hat Network. Customers will save time, money and administrative resources. The complete transition to Red Hat Enterprise Linux is made simple and pain-free with an established management system already in place.

"KeyBank is looking forward to using Red Hat Network Satellite to manage and secure our rapidly growing install base of Red Hat Enterprise Linux systems," said Dave Seager, VP/Manager Unix Systems Engineering at KeyBank. "As an organization actively migrating HP-UX and other UNIX-variant servers to Red Hat Enterprise Linux, we are pleased to have a tool at our disposal to help increase the efficiency of our migrations."

Red Hat also announced enhanced Red Hat Network support for heterogeneous environments that include Windows and Unix via collaboration with BMC Software. "This partnership enables customers with heterogeneous environments to have much greater control of the overall change process, greater visibility into their assets across all platforms, and significantly lower total-cost-of-ownership," said Rich Novak, Vice President BMC Sales.

Red Hat Network with monitoring and cross platform support will be available by the end of this month. For more information on Red Hat Network please visit Red Hat Booth #210 at LinuxWorld, San Francisco, visit http://www.redhat.com or call 866-2-REDHAT.
