Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced that Quint Van Deman, director of open source consulting at Emergent, LLC and a Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA®), has been named the 2011 Red Hat Certified Professional of the Year. Red Hat certifications are earned by passing rigorous practical exams in which candidates must perform the real-world tasks required in production environment. The annual Red Hat Certified Professional of the Year award recognizes and honors the hard work, skills and creativity of those holding Red Hat certifications.

“The community of Red Hat Certified professionals across the globe are using their Red Hat certifications to continually help their companies and customers with successful IT deployments and migrations,” said Randy Russell, director of Certification for Red Hat. “We once again had a very competitive program for Red Hat Certified Professional of the Year and we’re pleased to recognize Quint Van Deman for his achievements as a Red Hat Certified Architect.”

In his role at Emergent, LLC, Van Deman’s principal objective is to help clients move from a last-generation, proprietary IT infrastructure to a next-generation architecture that embraces the synergy of open source, open standards and cloud-based solutions. Being a RHCA® has enhanced Van Deman’s knowledge of many of the enterprise solutions that solve common IT-related business challenges. From using Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for on-premise server and datacenter consolidation, to using Red Hat technologies as the foundations of an identity management solution, Van Deman is able to show how open source solves CIO-level problems. His RHCA status also gives Van Deman instant credibility with Emergent’s customers as a trusted IT advisor with knowledge based on practical experience and backed up with certified expertise.

“The skills I've acquired during my progression through the RHCE® and RHCA® certifications have enabled me to deliver results to Emergent’s customers by helping them harness the innovative power of open source solutions,” said Van Deman. “They have also enabled Emergent to accelerate its business growth into the open source market. I’m honored to receive Red Hat Certified Professional of the Year for 2011 and to have achieved a level of professional certification that’s so highly regarded across the industry.”

This year’s application process included more than 600 submissions from Red Hat certification credential holders. Van Deman was selected as Red Hat Certified Professional of the Year through a voting process open to all individuals holding a Red Hat certification. He will be recognized at a special reception this Wednesday, May 4, during the Red Hat Summit and JBoss World in Boston. The reception is open to all Red Hat Summit and JBoss World attendees who hold a Red Hat certification.
