Red Hat Expands Enterprise SOA Offering with Management and Next-Generation ESB and Rules Features

JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform and JBoss Operations Network Join Forces to Accelerate Open Source SOA in the Enterprise

RALEIGH, N.C.

Red Hat, Inc. (NYSE: RHT), the world's leading provider of open source solutions, today announced the expansion of its enterprise offerings for SOA deployment with the release of JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform 4.3 and JBoss Operations Network 2.1. The newest versions of JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform and JBoss Operations Network will feature cooperative support and will allow for the remote monitoring and management of open source SOA deployments.

Our SOA strategy aims to drive down the cost and complexity of implementing service oriented architectures with a comprehensive portfolio of enterprise-class, open source middleware. JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform 4.3 and JBoss Operations Network 2.1 together are another example of our commitment to accelerating the adoption of hardened, secure and stable open source middleware solutions that deliver on this strategy, said Pierre Fricke, director, SOA product line management at Red Hat. Our customers helped drive the direction of the enhancements delivered today in the newest versions of the SOA Platform and JBoss Operations Network, and with these solutions, we're excited to offer enterprises tools to effectively plan, deploy, manage and monitor open source SOA.

New features in JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform include:

  • New ESB Features - New gateway listeners, a declarative security model, improved web services integration and additional scripting languages will accelerate enterprise adoption of open source SOA by enabling simpler web services integration and deployment.
  • New Rules Features - Stateful Rules services, decision tables and Rule agent support will further enable business event processing with an event-driven architecture (EDA), as well as allow non-developers to construct business rules and enable rapid deployment.

JBoss Operations Network 2.1 brings enhanced management for JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform, helping to reduce the cost of ongoing operations of enterprise SOA deployments. The SOA support features help enterprises accelerate their use of open source SOA. New capabilities in the JBoss Operations Network 2.1 include:

  • Scalable and centralized management for JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform
  • Remote platform configuration and deployment
  • Automatic ESB service inventory discovery
  • Monitoring metrics
  • Patch management
  • JBoss ESB service monitoring

As SOA deployments expand, so does the need for more robust, automated monitoring and management techniques, states Sandra Rogers, Program Director for SOA, Web Services, and Integration research at IDC. Tracking and ensuring service performance and policy enforcement at multiple levels, and across varied SOA infrastructure elements, is crucial for supporting more dynamic and complex configurations.

JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform enhances flexibility in a wide array of deployment scenarios from small-scale integration projects to enterprise-wide SOA integration. Built from leading open source projects such as JBoss ESB, JBoss jBPM and JBoss Rules, the solution offers an enterprise-ready, light-weight footprint and simple installation for low-cost operations.

Built upon modular components, JBoss Operations Network provides centralized management for the entire JBoss Enterprise Middleware portfolio, including inventorying, administration, deployment and updating of JBoss Enterprise Middleware products and subsystems. JBoss Operations Network provides enterprises with an extensible and customizable management tool set in a single platform-based solution.

JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform 4.3 and JBoss Operations Network 2.1 are expected to be available by the end of October 2008.
