RED HAT APPOINTS SPECIALIST CHANNEL DISTRIBUTOR FOR THE LINUX MARKET

-
Red Hat, the leading provider of open source software, has appointed UniDirect,
as one of its official channel distributors. UniDirect specialises in providing
high-level software, hardware and services, with a particular focus on the
mission critical server market place. UniDirect will supply a full range of Red
Hat products to its customers through the channel.

Duncan Little, managing director of UniDirect commented: “We are starting
to see Linux used by many VARs for applications and services where before, they
have considered using NT. As software and services are our main area of
expertise, Red Hat Linux based systems will enable us to offer our customers
progressive and innovative business systems.”

Andy Dickens, European Sales Director, Red Hat Europe, said: “It’s
a pleasure to appoint UniDirect. Not only are they very strong in the
distribution channel, but they also provide a vast range of benefits through focused
customer support activities which actually bring business to the VAR, that they would
not receive under normal circumstances. By sourcing Red Hat Linux through
UniDirect, users and resellers can be assured of expert service and excellent customer
care.”

The range of software that is included in Red Hat Linux enables it to be used
as a server or desktop both in the work place or at home, offering extra benefits,
security and time savings. As a server, Red Hat has multiple capabilities and
can be set up for use as a Web server, e-mail server, DNS server, news server
and for multiple sites, with virtual hosting. All this can all be done without
the need for additional software.

Packages are offered to implement easy client/server relationships on composite
computer networks. UniDirect will offer the software needed for use as a
desktop client such as e-mail, browsers, publishing tools, calendars, Internet tools,
through Red Hat Linux 6.1. The standard user interface combines the power of
the X Window System with an easy to configure window manager.

Red Hat Linux 6.1 includes the official version of the operating system on
CD-ROM – this comes with a full guarantee and technical support, unlike
the downloadable version. A set of printed manuals are provided in the box set
and customers can choose between 30 days of telephone technical installation
support or 90 days of installation support via e-mail or fax.

Also included, with the Intel version only, is a Linux Applications CD-ROM,
featuring a set of binary-only tools from third party software developers.
