Red Hat launches new academic offer in Europe

Attractive pricing and support for integrated open source desktop solution

LONDRES -

Red Hat, Inc. (Nasdaq:RHAT), the worlds leading provider of open source solutions to the enterprise, today announced a new academic bundle, specially-priced for the needs of schools, universities and other educational institutions in Europe. For a yearly subscription price of £ 240 (351 Euros) the academic bundle includes 15 Red Hat Desktop subscriptions and one Red Hat Network Management Module subscription. Subscriptions also include the Red Hat Network Update Module to ensure continuous updates with the latest security and functionality patches. Specially-priced Red Hat Desktop extension bundles are also available.

Red Hat Desktop is designed for users who need a variety of software from email to office and web applications. It provides for volume deployments that require a secure and centralized management infrastructure for client systems. Red Hat Desktop is delivered as an integrated solution that includes a Red Hat Network Proxy Server or a Satellite Server to provide a secure and centralized management infrastructure for volume client system deployments. In this way, users profit from a flexible and powerful open source desktop environment, which they can effectively and centrally manage, avoiding the vendor lock-in of proprietary solutions.

"Academic institutions are of central importance for Red Hat and the whole open source community", said Dirk Haaga, Channel Manager CER at Red Hat. "Open source software, especially Linux, has already gained a very good standing among college students and the university community, who do development work themselves. This offer is targeted to these institutions, and also to schools where users require high level office productivity and web applications, and will only seldom design code themselves."
