Red Hat and Global Knowledge Partner to Deliver Training and Certification Nationwide for Linux-Based Operating System

Largest Independent IT Training Provider to Offer Linux-based Operating System Courses and Red Hat Certified Engineer Program Nationwide

DURHAM -

Red Hat, Inc., a leading developer and provider of Linux-based operating system (OS) solutions, today announced that Global Knowledge, the world's largest independent IT training company, will provide Red Hat's hands-on, real-world training and certification nationwide for Red Hat Linux, including the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) program.

Taught by RHCEs with considerable internetworking experience, Red Hat's certification program offers more than traditional, multiple-choice written exams and "paper certifications." RHCE Certification requires success on performance-based practical exams, in which users actually demonstrate ability to: install and configure Red Hat Linux, set up common network (IP) services, perform essential administration, diagnostic tests and troubleshooting, among other internetworking and systems administration tasks. Red Hat courses are available for the entire RHCE certification track, at levels appropriate for both beginners and networking professionals looking to migrate to open source solutions and build or expand their experience with Linux-based operating systems.

"Global Knowledge's technical expertise in UNIX and internetworking, understanding of the value of open source software and worldwide reach makes them a tremendous partner for Red Hat Linux users that need a close and credible training provider," said Tim Buckley, senior vice president and COO at Red Hat, Inc. "The addition of nationwide availability of Red Hat's industry-leading training and certification program continues our mission to provide complete software, training and support for enterprise corporations using or migrating to open source software solutions."

Under the partnership, Global Knowledge will begin offering Red Hat Linux courses in 15 cities nationwide. The first courses will be available starting in September 1999. Information on these courses, which are the same highly-successful offerings currently taught at Red Hat's North Carolina headquarters, is posted at www.redhat.com/products/training.html and www.am.globalknowledge.com.

"Network and system administrators who want to learn the Linux-based systems, further develop their internetworking skills and achieve Red Hat's highly-credible certification have been asking Global Knowledge for this offering," said Greg Roels, vice president at Global Knowledge. "We're responding with the highest quality, real-world Red Hat Linux training for today's internetworking, Internet and e-commerce professionals."

Global Knowledge has the ability to make Red Hat's RHCE training and certification program to individuals and businesses on a broad scale, and maintain the intensive, hands-on quality we have built into the program," said Peter Childers, manager of training at Red Hat, Inc.
